August 2 0, 2006It's been too darned hot to take pictures and post anything to our blog. Today it was 106! So far this summer, we've had 36 days of 100 or more. The poor horses can't get into the air conditioning like we can. In this picture it's hotter than hell and they're eating their dinner. Katy is on the left, Blondie (almost 4 months old) is in the middle and Leo (2 years old now) is on the right. This is the first day we've introduced Blondie to her brother. Everyone seems to be coexisting peacefully, probably because Leo is a gelding. The fighting and posturing comes when you put mares together so we'll wait until Blondie is bigger so she can defend herself. It's important to socialize young horses with the herd so they learn horse etiquette early so they won't get hurt. When you're a horse, learning manners involves biting and kicking. |

Look MA! I'm not a Quarter Horse, I'm an Arabian! This is a typical Arab mannerism - a high head, curved neck and tail in the air. Blondie will have to learn how to look like the Pedigree'd Quarter Horse that she is! I guess she's been watching Mystyk (our Arab) over the fence. |

Our blog (a web log or sort of online diary) is maintained by chief stall mucker, poop picker-upper and all around slave to the animals,
Norma Epstein.
I write it all myself (no Pulitzer or accolades necessary) and I take all the pictures with a Minolta digital camera.
I take pictures and post to the blog whenever I find something interesting or have something interesting to say (and even sometimes when I don't).
