Memorial WeekendA trailride near Abilene, Texas was definitely the way to spend a long weekend. Here we are in a wagon pulled by a beautiful Belgian draft horse. You really can't tell how big she is but she is the same size as the ones pictured below. We are walking east toward a huge thunderstorm - you can see how mean the clouds look and the storm was about 30 minutes from reaching us. We headed back to camp because you can't be sure what storms in west Texas will do. |

This is my good friend Mary Favaron with her horse, Paco. We camped in her horse trailer (which has living quarters) for the trail ride. Mary is the one who, at the drop of a hat, rushed to our place the night Leo had his bad accident and was a tremendous help. I don't know what I would have done without Mary and her husband, George. Everyone needs one friend like Mary and I consider myself lucky to have her as my friend. |

This is how you teach a baby how to be a draft horse. This baby is only a few months old and he's already as big as a normal-size horse. |

Here is what they called an OREO hitch. Two white horses flanked by two black horses. The babies tied on the sides were a bonus. The babies are getting additional lessons on being draft horses by being tied on to their mothers' collars. |

Our blog (a web log or sort of online diary) is maintained by chief stall mucker, poop picker-upper and all around slave to the animals,
Norma Epstein.
I write it all myself (no Pulitzer or accolades necessary) and I take all the pictures with a Minolta digital camera.
I try to take pictures daily and update the site by 5:00 p.m. Central Daylight Time, but it usually gets done sometime later.
