deep in the heart of the great state of Texas

December 11, 2004

Leo seems to be feeling good. He just romped around the round pen and tried to rub off his new bandage. You can see his nose and lips are listing to his left side. The vet said this would happen because of the nerve damage to the right side of his face. His left eye is swollen but that should subside. He doesn't seem traumatized by the ordeal - he's still sweet and lovable and actually comes when you call him (if he takes after his mother, that will soon stop - when you call her, all you get is a look that says "you're not talking to me, are you?"

Click here to see pictures from the night of the accident. (Warning - they are graphic and may cause bad dreams)

This morning as I was feeding the animals, I found the culprit and cause of Leo's accident. I thought it was a metal hose hanger that did the damage but it obviously was the gate. His hair is hanging from the slide and there is more skin an bone on the upper stop. Who would think that something like this would do so much damage?

On a lighter note, this hen has 7 chicks under her wings. Here are 2 peeking out at the camera. It was a very cold morning this morning and she's making sure they stay nice and warm. Chicks die very quickly if they get cold.

Our blog (a web log or sort of online diary) is maintained by chief stall mucker, poop picker-upper and all around slave to the animals,
Norma Epstein. I write it all myself (no Pulitzer or accolades necessary) and I take all the pictures with a Minolta digital camera.
I try to take pictures daily and update the site by 5:00 p.m. Central Daylight Time, but it usually gets done sometime later.
