Brrrr - it's freezing - literally. We had sleet and then snow at 4:30 this morning and at 11:00 am it's 16° outside with a windchill factor of -1°F. Two days ago it was 70° and beautiful and today it chills you to the bone. The horses are all huddled up in the small shed except for Leo who's found something green to nibble on. At this time of the year, the horses are starving for anything green and that's when they can get themselves into trouble - they may eat something they normally wouldn't touch and it can make them sick. Also, when it's this cold they don't think they need to drink water and that can be lethal to a horse. They need lots of water to keep everything flowing. If they get stopped up they can die very quickly. We have salt blocks and feed them electrolytes to make sure they stay thirsty and drink the water they need. |

Our blog (a web log or sort of online diary) is maintained by chief stall mucker, poop picker-upper and all around slave to the animals,
Norma Epstein.
I write it all myself (no Pulitzer or accolades necessary) and I take all the pictures with a Minolta digital camera.
I take pictures and post to the blog whenever I find something interesting or have something interesting to say (and even sometimes when I don't).
