June 5, 2004We had a huge storm rumble through here the night of June 1. Tornado sirens blared all around us for at least 2 hours. We never got a tornado but we got some terrific winds and a lot of rain. You can see here that our power pole blew down and brought all the wires and the telephones with it. Our modem and FAX line is working but our main line is still out. That's what we get for using Vartec Telecom for our main line. Their customer service doesn't exist - we've been down since Tuesday night, June 1 and we are still down and no response from our carrier, Vartec Telecom. If you ever even THINK about switching from a stable provider such as Southwestern Bell or any of the other Bells, think twice. At least THEY have customer service here in the country and not in India. So long, Vartec, as soon as I can contact another provider! |

We were trapped for 5 days behind this power pole. It fell down directly across the drive. Our truck and my transportation are parked behind the camera. No electricity and 95 degree weather means no air conditioning, no computer, no hot water the whole time. Fortunately, crews from Arkansas came to our rescue. They replaced the pole and the wires. The transformer on the pole was full of 22 gallons of mineral oil which leaked out onto the grass and killed the grass. |

TXU Energy sent out an environmental clean up crew to clean up the spilled mineral oil. Although we sometimes give mineral oil to the horses, it kills grass. They marked off the area of the spill and are coming back to dig up the grass and the contaminated soil. They said they would replace the grass with sod.
As far as I am concerned, this is excellent service which is in stark contrast to the terrible customer service (NO customer service) of Vartec Telecom. They're right there to collect their fees but can't seem to get our telephone service working or even give the courtesy of a telephone call to my cell phone which was the number I gave them when I called in the problem TUESDAY NIGHT!!! |

I write it all myself (no Pulitzer or accolades necessary) and I take all the pictures with a Minolta digital camera.
I try to take pictures daily and update the site by 5:00 p.m. Central Daylight Time, but it usually gets done sometime later.
