March 14, 2005I've heard some people say that horses are dumb animals. Not so. Kit, Arnie's horse is playing a game here. Everyone else is in the barn eating their grain and Kit has decided not to come into her stall. As soon as I get closer to her to grab her and lead her in, she turns around and runs out to the pasture. When I turn my back, she comes back to the barn. She came halfway into the barn almost to her stall and as soon as she saw me looking at her, she turned back around and ran out to the pasture. So, no grain for her today! |

The classical music I play during feeding time has produced more chickens than we need! The hens really like classical music because I have never had so many hens sitting on eggs and so many chicks. I try to collect all the eggs but as soon as I find their hiding places, they move them. This hen alone has 8 chicks. That's why egg farms keep their hens in cages - that way they know where the eggs are and how fresh they are.. I cleaned the barn yesterday and found 2 dozen eggs in various hiding places. Not knowing how old they were, we couldn't use them so they got tossed. I don't need another 2 dozen chicks! |

Our blog (a web log or sort of online diary) is maintained by chief stall mucker, poop picker-upper and all around slave to the animals,
Norma Epstein.
I write it all myself (no Pulitzer or accolades necessary) and I take all the pictures with a Minolta digital camera.
I try to take pictures daily and update the site by 5:00 p.m. Central Daylight Time, but it usually gets done sometime later.
