May 14, 2004I am in Williams, Arizona taking an aritificial insemination class. Yesterday I learned how to collect semen (no pictures to protect the privacy of the stallion). I learned that some stallions are very picky about how their semen is collected. We prepared the semen for insemination, looked at it under the microscope to see how many swimmers there were and their motility. This is very interesting stuff. Here I am wrapping the tail of the mare who is in season preparing to inseminate. |

I am inseminating the mare who is being very considerate and holding her tail up for me. When you are new at this, it's very difficult not to feel panicky while you are feeling around forthe cervex. Luckily for me, this mare is very patient and kind. |

Our blog (a web log or sort of online diary) is maintained by chief stall mucker, poop picker-upper and all around slave to the animals,
Norma Epstein.
I write it all myself (no Pulitzer or accolades necessary) and I take all the pictures with a Minolta digital camera.
I try to take pictures daily and update the site by 5:00 pm Central Daylight Time, but it usually gets done sometime later.
