November 8, 2005Mother and Son. Leo (left) is a year and a half old and next month it will be a year since his accident (click here to see - WARNING - the pictures are graphic). You can see his nose is twisted to his left side because the accident destroyed the tendons and muscles on the right side of his face. Other than that, he's doing really great and he still has a very sweet disposition. Katy is pregnant again and is due in April. We're anxious to see what color the new baby will be because the sire is a buckskin. |

Believe it or not, this rooster has taken these chicks under his wings (literally. Their mother has already kicked them out of the nest (also literally) and they've taken up with the rooster. Once a hen kicks her young out of the nest, she won't have anything more to do with them. You can see another hen (upper right) with a younger chick between her legs. We've never had a rooster do this before and we're not sure why this one has (he's the one profiled in previous posts who likes to fight and we've had to lock him in the coop to prevent his murder by other roosters) Everyone has bedded down for the night and the chicks will stay 'under the wings' all snug and warm until morning. |

Our blog (a web log or sort of online diary) is maintained by chief stall mucker, poop picker-upper and all around slave to the animals,
Norma Epstein.
I write it all myself (no Pulitzer or accolades necessary) and I take all the pictures with a Minolta digital camera.
I take pictures and post to the blog whenever I find something interesting or have something interesting to say (and even sometimes when I don't).
